A Linen Shirt Is Better Than Cotton?

A linen shirt is expensive because they cost a lot to manufacture. This because they are made up from the fibers of the flax plant which is a very tough fibered plant. And it is the same plant that gives you flax seeds. If you have ever tried to eat the seeds you will already know that they are nearly impossible to chew. Linen has been used for thousands of years by royal families for their garments, but now it is available to anyone and everyone. So let’s look at linen a bit more and what a linen shirt is all about.

Linen itself can be woven using a cotton machine but the end result is much to be desired. In Europe, the flax fibers are often separated by hand or simple machines. This takes a lot of time and effort compared to other fabric making methods. And of course this is another reason the price is much more than cotton shirts for example.

Linen is also an incredible fabric to use because it has many abilities. It is able to repel dirt and other debris quite easily. It naturally deters moths and other insects from eating or nesting it. And it takes dying processes extremely well. And it also is very good to keep close to your skin because it helps draw moisture away from your body.

Linen Shirt

I’ve mentioned how great it is but there are some problems you should know about. About the biggest annoyance with a linen shirt is that it wrinkles easily. You can form wrinkles and creases just by sitting down at a table and it isn’t that easy to fix unless you can toss it in a dryer for a few minutes. But even then, you need to have a really hot dryer or iron because linen is so strong and resistant.

When you first start wearing a new linen shirt it will seem a bit hard and perhaps rough. Don’t worry because this is perfectly normal. In fact after it has been washed and dried several times it will start to loosen up and feel softer to the touch.

But let me get back to the benefits of a linen shirt. The reason I love it so much is because it is lint free. How many cotton shirts do you have that look old just because of the amount of lint that is stuck to them? Another interesting fact is that it is 3 times stronger than cotton which means I can still play a bit rough and not have to worry about my shirt to rip which happens all the time with cotton. If you don’t own one yet, I would suggest you give it a try. It might just save you a bundle of money in the long run.
